Books are Good for Kids

Books are good for kids... even for toddlers and preschoolers, or even infants... yes even infants and toddlers. It is never too early to be exposed with books because why not? 😊

Before I bought the very first book of my daughter, i was hesitant. I was worried about pages getting torn apart and about the possibility of spending money on something that isn't really necessary.

But I believed that books are good for kids, even toddlers, despite their young age. My daughter had her first book at 10 months old and new books just kept on coming since then.

Do you want to buy your child some books, but you have doubts when should you start? Books are educational and it is never too late or too early to start now.

Here are some Momster tips/advice i have for you and i hope that it will help you resolve some questions, worries, or doubts 😉

❤❤❤

Books are beneficial because...

It encourages book reading.

It exposes a child to more vocabularies.

It suggests more situations to imagine.

It is an additional activity to keep kids busy.

It is a good bonding between parents and kids.

It is a good material for learning how to read. Later on when they grow up, they can use these children’s books as a material for reading practice since these books have simple and short sentences.

Books will last for a long time. It is worth the money if you base the value on how many times it is going to be used. Kids love to repeat stories sooo much! My four year old still repeats the same story over and over again.

And you can still hand it down to someone else in the future. It will still have the same value and usefulness that it had the first day you turned its pages.

Some Tips

Buy board books. They are sturdy. Their pages are easy to turn. They have short relatable and interesting stories for little ones.

Don’t worry too much that toddlers might just tear pages apart or scribble on their books. Board books are more difficult to tear. Always remind them to care for their things. Just watch them while they hold their books to make sure you stop them from scribbling on it or from tearing pages or flaps. In case they tear a page, show them how to mend it.

Search for toddler books. Watch the read-aloud versions on Youtube (if any) to know if you like the content.

Don't stress too much on the story. Toddlers mostly, wont appreciate fairy tales yet. But they will love a very short and simple story about a dog who went to sleep or a caterpillar who ate a lot then became a butterfly.

Next time you wonder what can be bought or gifted for a toddler or a preschooler, a book is also a good option aside from clothes or toys.

Here are a list of books that we have and love:

English books:

  • How Big is A Pig

  • Dear Zoo

  • The Very Hungry Caterpillar

  • Karen Katz Books (where is baby’s belly button, what does the baby feel, baby loves summer/spring/winter/autumn, and lots more)

  • Spot Books (where is spot, goodnight spot, spot goes to school, spot bakes a cake, and so much more)

  • Michael Dahl Book - i love these (monkey calms down, penguin says please, elephant listens, tiger picks up, hippo says excuse me, mouse says sorry, and so much more)

Spanish Books:

  • Si Yo Fuera un Gato (If I were a cat)

  • El Monstruo de colores (The Color Monster)

  • Un puñado de botones (A handful of buttons)

  • Por cuatro esquinitas de nada (Four Little corners of nothing)

We have other books that are about alphabets, numbers, colors, shapes, unicorns, My little pony, fairy tale books, Maisy Books, and even DIY books!

Sometimes I make up short, simple stories, customized using my daughter’s name on it. I print them, staple to bind, and voila! She has a new book that she loves! We also read it repeatedly.

Share, exchange, or hand down some books to share the reading experience. Buy a book for your little one or give it as a gift to a child you know. Let us raise a generation of book readers.

Books are always a good idea :)
